Five Stars - Stunning debut!
“I'm hooked. Picked this book up on a whim, and because the lead character is not your typical fantasy hero. I was gripped. Great worldbuilding and a strong character-focused narrative. I loved the politics and the wider story arc. The big fight was also *chef's kiss*”
Five Stars - One of the best fantasy books I’ve read
“I was pleasantly surprised as to how good this book was. In a genre that is often stale and repetitive, it was refreshing different.”
Five Stars - Pleasantly surprised with this book
“Like others who have reviewed this title before me I did not know what to expect especially as the protagonist was severely disabled, but I have to confess that I thoroughly enjoyed this book which has a unique twist on a familiar genre. I can recommend this book, it's a great read”
Unique and fascinating
“The ideas in Empire Under a Dying Sun are unique and fascinating. I’ve read plenty of fantasy where preventing the apocalypse is the stake, and some that’s post-apocalyptic, but living through an apocalypse was new—especially an apocalypse that cannot be staved off through the power of magical swords in guts. The panic of people living through the end of days and what they did to survive was well-done.”
A fantastic read!
“I loved the worldbuilding, it reminded me of ancient Greece instead of the usual Medieval setting and it’s indeed a breath of fresh air.
I loved both Anyosa and Sethes, but Anyosa especially won my heart. She’s so sassy and sharp-tongued I honestly couldn’t wait to read her chapters. When the POV wasn’t hers, I waited anxiously to go back to Anyosa. This author knows how to write female characters and unfortunately it’s not always granted. Joseph O. Doran nailed it, female characters are strong and well-rounded and Anyosa just became one of my favourite fictional ladies of all time.
Joseph O. Doran will be one of my insta-buy authors from now on and although this is undoubtedly a good book, I’m sure he hasn’t unleashed his full power yet!”
